(QCF) Diploma in Adult Care - Level 3

The Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care is a competence based qualification which has been developed with Skills for Care and in consultation with employers who provide adult care. Designed to support the on- programme element of the Lead Adult Care Worker apprenticeship standard in England, the qualification covers the knowledge and skills required to work in a lead adult care worker role in a range of settings and supporting individuals with different needs. The qualification contains units which are competence based and several knowledge based units.

The qualification is aimed at lead adult care workers, support workers and key workers in a range of adult care settings. The qualification can be used both within and outside of an apprenticeship standard.

The qualification is structured in a way which means that all learners will have to complete a group of mandatory units, the content of which is required across any lead adult care role. In addition there is a wide range of optional units to support areas of specialism, including:

  • Learning disability services

  • Dementia Care

  • End of life Care

  • Residential Care

  • Domiciliary Care

 

To achieve the Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care learners must achieve a minimum of 58 credits. Out of the total 58 credits 43 credits must be at level 3 and above.
 

  • 28 credits must be taken from the mandatory group A.

  • A minimum of 30 credits must be taken from optional groups B and C.

  • A minimum of 20 credits must be taken from group B.

  • A maximum of 10 credits can be taken from group C. There is no minimum requirement for credit to
    be taken from group C.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

 

The qualification provides a structured programme of learning and assessment to support learners to demonstrate competence in a lead adult care worker role. Learners can progress to an apprenticeship or qualification such as the Level 4 Diploma in Care or the Lead Practitioner in Adult Care apprenticeship; alternatively onto a level 5 apprenticeship or a qualification or apprenticeship in Leadership & Management in Adult Care, provided they are in a suitable job role.
